Let’s talk about the art of Kashida Kaam or Aari Kari today. An embroidery technique from the Kashmir Valley. This technique of ornamenting clothes with beautiful floral motifs was developed by Alibaba, a local darner of the Kashmir valley. As for the legend goes, Alibaba one day saw the imprints of a fowls feet caught on a white cloth he had laid out to dry on the porch. The legendary Raffoghar who was locally known for mending and bringing back dead clothes to life, wanted to preserve this natural imprint. So he picked up a needle, threaded it with coloured thread and stitched around the print, preserving it forever. And just like that an all new technique was born!

The first time I came across this beautiful art was when I was searching for a Chikankari kurta. I must have dived deep into the Google search, loading page after page before I found this website that solely sells Kashmiri products. I went through their website and loved every single one of their items! There were Kashmiri Phirans, Kashmiri Kaftans, Kashmiri Pashmina and of course, the Kashida of Kashmir or Kashmiri Aari as it is commonly called! The vibrant-coloured floral motifs were so captivating that I just had to get it! There was no turning back. I quickly placed the order and then patiently waited for it to arrive!

Once the kurta arrived, I knew exactly how to style it! I had these flowy black Palazzo pants lying in my wardrobe for a while now, Once I saw the kurta, I instinctively knew that it would go extremely well with this kurta! I took it out of my wardrobe and swiftly changed to it to see how both of these would go together. One look and knew that this was a match made in Heaven!

Then it was obviously time to pick out some jewellery! I like a raccoon went through my tiny collection of oxidized jewellery, hoping to find something worthwhile and I came across these statement Afghani earrings I had bought from Bangalore the last time I was there! And then what? I wore it! Since the motifs are grand on their own I thought it was best to keep it minimal rather than choosing extravagant jewellery to cloud the look!

Lastly, I paired the outfit with a formal-looking bag and high heels to add some fineness! And just like that the entire look came together like a moon on an Eid night! I have fallen in love with this look ever since I wore it! The beauty of the motifs and the ladylike fineness that this outfit brings out is what makes this Kurta essential in every fashion lover’s wardrobe!

So, that was a little about Kashida of Kashmir! I hope you enjoyed this look and would save this one to recreate it or even give your own twist to it. I will see you soon with yet another modern and elegant look but until then stay healthy and stay stylish!
