Eight months! That’s how many months I have waited to share this outfit. That’s approximately 244 days. One more month and a baby could have been born in the time it took me to put this outfit together! Why did I take so long? Because you see, I was in what you can only call the pursuit of perfection! I bought this off-shoulder, brightly and beautifully red corset top in late June of 2023. Ever since then, I have been searching for just the right colour of satin fabric to create this saree look.

In the past 8 months, I don’t know how many fabric shops I have visited. I don’t know how many different red satin fabrics I have seen. Believe it or not in the search for this very particular cherry red satin fabric, I have seen almost all shades of red there are! I have ordered so many satin sarees online only to return them back because they just didn’t match. But before I gave up on the idea of sharing this outfit I told myself, ‘Just one last try!’ And in that last try was it that I finally found the perfect shade of red! The shade that had me running around my hometown for nearly eight months! This has been the longest I have waited in faith to share a look after my madly viral saree draping look, ‘One Long Search’.

But for someone who would argue that progress is more important than perfection, I probably must look like an idiot to have spent so much time and energy in finding a piece of fabric. But let me tell you why I value perfection so much. I believe firmly that the constant pursuit of perfection is a trait everyone should imbibe when it comes to mastering an art. Notice that I am saying art and not beauty! We don’t want people to go frenzy in the pursuit of perfecting themselves to feel fit to the ever-changing beauty standards. But we must be in the pursuit of perfection when it comes to mastering our craft.

I believe that it is that constant commitment to the craft that turns mediocrity into mastery. And every master was once in the pursuit of perfection! That deep need to make it better and better with each try is what turns an amateur into a master. Because if we stop on the path to excelling on our craft we can’t become the best at it. So, to give our best we must be in pursuit of perfection, for there is a deep satisfaction in the work that comes out of it and the rewards are also in my observation always bigger and better.

So, after eight long months of searching, do I regret it? Absolutely not! This outfit wouldn’t anywhere be near to what it looks like had it been a different shade of red. It looks so beautiful because of the monochromatic cohesiveness the fabrics are bringing out. I remember walking back home in the outfit after shooting the video when one of my neighbours saw me. My mother who was also outside at the exact time told me that our neighbour told her that she got goosebumps when she saw me! Was it me? Could be. Was it the outfit? Most definitely!

So, that was the story behind this look! How it took me on a journey to find this particular shade of red. I will probably remember this for a long time. Because more often than not it is the story behind a look that makes it more special. This outfit certainly has a special place in my heart for two reasons, as I just mentioned is because of the waiting period and the long pursuit of perfection and the other is of course how I came up with the millennial drape – The unique way in which I have draped this 3 meter fabric!
